I’m Collette and in 2020 I established ReWild Child. Back then, I had recently moved from the UK to Japan with my family of 5. I’d given up my corporate job and the slow small village lifestyle I was used to.
Living in Yokohama, a mega city itself neighboring Tokyo, I was lost in an Urban Jungle, searching for green and wild spaces. Spaces for us all to feel wild and free.
But, slowly I began to see past the concrete and to the mountains, to the amazing hiking community that quietly exists. I began to feel alive and reconnected my inner self and what burns bright inside me.
With an amazing group of women around me, I focused my energies on the things that fed my soul and nourished me. My passion was being in nature, giving space for my children to be wild and free and to adventure.
And so ,out of passion, love and small miracles, The ReWild Child Forest School was born, running alongside my passion for hiking and adventuring with women.
THE BENEFITS OF NATURE:
We are primitively connected to nature, but modern society has shifted how we live and has disrupted that connection. Some of us feel that disconnection more than others, and I am one of them. Over time I have come to recognise how unbalanced I can feel when I spend a lot of time in a high sensory or busy urban environment, but how the draw of nature sooths, calms and rebalances me. It helps put back into perspective what is important to me in life, and more connected to my true self.
The positive health benefits of being in nature are well documented and scientifically supported and in natural forest environments, children can more independence and freedom to explore the world around them, free of any set expectations.
But, it goes further than that. Being in nature and sharing experience brings connection to those around us. Maybe to our family, for this new community that we share this time with.
This is the aim of ReWild Child. To provide experiences in nature, opportunities to adventure and to be connection and community.
